So the World Cup is over and it's time for the teams to look back and asses. Some players would rather forget the last four weeks mentioning no names, you know who you are. However for some it is a time to be proud and to look back with a smile at some blistering performances. Here is our list of players who can go home with their heads held high as we name our Team Of The Tournament.

For some of these players it has been business as usual as they carried their outstanding domestic form through to international level. For others it has been a stellar rise to the top, seeing their stats increase massively. Either way now is your chance to pick yourself up a player at their absolute peak.

GK - SPA - Iker Casillas - 91 (93)
The Real Madrid prodigy has fulfilled his dream and captained his country to World Cup glory. Casillas did not have the greatest of tournaments looking uncharacteristically nervous in a few games, in the final though where it mattered most his form returned spectacularly.
ST - GER - Thomas Müller - 74 (87)
Germany have surely struck gold with Müller, the Bayern Munich youngster outshone many more established superstars at the World Cup. The tournaments top scorer with five goals and three assists is awarded a massive 13 point ratings boost for his stellar performances.
CAM - GER - Mesut Özil - 76 (86)
Like Müller, Germany have unearthed another treasure in Özil, the 21 year old Werder Bremen number 10 has injected a new sense of guile and trickery to the solidity of the German midfield. His mature performances and cultured left boot have seen his stats go through the roof.
CM - GER - Bastian Schweinsteiger - 79 (86)
Schweinsteiger needed to put in some big performances to fill the void in the German midfield left by Michael Ballack. Luckily for Germany 'Schweini', as he is known has matured at just the right time.
CM - HOL - Wesley Sneijder - 81 (87)
Wesley Sneijder fell just one game short of a storybook season, winning all competitions at domestic level at Inter. He was also the driving force behind a Dutch midfield that came so close to World Cup Glory his vision and long range strikes have made him the stand out player of the tournament for the Dutch.
CM - SPA - Xavi Hernandez - 87 (90)
The Barcelona dynamo has controlled the passing rythm of the Spanish midfield like a metronome. His reading of the game and peerless passing have had the pundits oozing superlatives throughout the tournament.
CM - SPA - Andres Iniesta - 85 (89)
Alongside Xabi his Barcelona club mate, Iniesta formed the ultimate attacking midfield pairing. His darting runs, quick feet and creative spark have dazzled from the start. His place in Spanish history is assured by his moment of brilliance in the final, his winning goal bringing to an end Spains long wait for the ultimate prize.
RM - HOL - Arjen Robben - 81 (90)
As soon as he returned to the Dutch squad after injury the side looked more balanced and more potent in attack. His dangerous left boot and marauding runs down the touchline were almost enough to see the Dutch lift the trophy.
ST - SPA - David Villa - 89 (93)
With Torres misfiring, Spain's hopes turned to Villa for goals, he didn't disappoint. Adding the cutting edge that spain desperately needed to convert their midfield dominance into goals. His jinking runs cutting in from the left were some of most special moments of attacking play the World Cup saw.
ST - GHA - Asamoah Gyan - 72 (85)
The Ghana Striker had some fantastic moments propelling his team to the quarter finals, his winner against the united states gave the tournament the African success story it craved. His extra time semi final penalty miss must have been crushing however his mental fortitude to step to take another penalty was impressive.
ST - URG - Diego Forlán - 86 (90)
Awarded the golden ball for his virtuoso performances, Forlan's stock has never been higher. Few players had such an individual impact, Forlan was Uruguay's catalyst, playmaker and goal scorer. A worthy winner and a much improved player.
