GK: Daniel Aranzubia - Deportivo - 84 (84)
Deportivo lost to Real Madrid at the weekend in a must-win game for the Galcticos, but Aranzubia's kept quite a few clean sheets recently and, indeed, made an amazing one-handed save after a Raul shot at the weekend. He was also scuppered by Guti's outrageous back-heel to Benzema (click here if you haven't seen it), but there's not a lot anyone could have done about that.
Def: Philipp Lahm - Bayern Munich - 93 (93)
Bayern shot temporarily to the top of the Bundesliga with a convincing 3-0 win at home to mid-table Mainz on Saturday. As well as helping his side notch an impressive clean sheet, Lahm also crossed to set up Mario Gomez for his side's second of the afternoon.
Def: William Gallas - Arsenal - 91 (79)
Before being handed a Premiership masterclass by Man Utd last weekend, Arsenal were undefeated in 10 - although they'd probably have liked more wins amongst that lot. Gallas has been playing well, and did so in the Man Utd game, making at least two impressive blocks to save his side even further blushes.
Def: Raul Albiol - Real Madrid - 90 (83)
Amazingly, Real Madrid hadn't won away to Deportivo La Caruna in almost two decades ahead of their visit to the Riazor on Sunday. This time they meant business - a seventh straight loss at this bogey ground would have handed Barcelona a mighty lead at the top of La Liga. But two goals from Karim Benzema capped a scintillating attacking performance, founded on a largely flawless show from the team's defensive line, including young Albiol.
Def: Eric Abidal - Barcelona - 89 (87)
Eric Abidal formed part of an impenetrable back line in Barcelona's away win at Sporting Gijon on Sunday. The 1-0 victory, secured by a strike after half an hour by winger Pedro - who was preferred ahead of Thierry Henry - was a difficult encounter, with Gijon showing their capabilities on the counter. But they were kept at bay, and Barcelona kept their unbeaten run going and their La Liga lead intact.
Mid: Marco Marchionni - Fiorentina - 85 (78)
Fiorentina had lost their last two outings prior to visiting an on-form Cagliari, but held on for a battling draw and look to have turned round their own poor form of late. Marco Marchionni scored first for the Viola on eight minutes, before two goals from Cagliari put them on the back foot. Fiorentina were without Adrian Mutu - banned after testing positive for a banned substance - and probably welcomed the draw. It was secured on 63 minutes by Stevan Jovetic, who slotted home a cross from that man Marchionni before celebrating his goal by bearing a T-shirt adorned with Mutu's name.
Mid: Frank Lampard - Chelsea - 94 (87)
Two tough games against lower-ranked opposition have tested Chelsea of late. First, an unconvincing 2-1 win at Burnley, followed by an equally poor 1-1 at Hull. But as a mid-week fixture, the latter game doesn't figure in the Live Season update this week. Lampard showed plenty of willingness in the tense encounter at Burnley, testing the impressive Brian Jensen on more than one occasion. Given the cloud looming over Chelsea with controversy continuing in the press around their captain's private life, it's testament to the team's strength - with Lampard at its heart - that they ground out a result at all.
Mid: Javier Mascherano - Liverpool - 92 (90)
Liverpool's indifferent form this season is disguised somewhat by a relatively decent record - they've only lost once in their last 13 games. The terrier like machinations of Javier Mascherano in midfield neatly embody the performances of a team reduced to scrapping for results. His consistent determination is a large factor in the fact Liverpool's pursuit of European qualification remains a realistic goal.
Mid: Xabi Alonso - Real Madrid - 91 (84)
Many would argue that the struggles of Liverpool can be attributed in no small measure to the departure of influential midfielder Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid at the end of last season. His performances for Real since then add weight to that argument. He marshalled the Galacticos' midfield against Deportivo last time out, and stung the goalkeeper's hands at least once in process.
Fwd: Wayne Rooney - Manchester Utd - 94 (94)
As Stevie Morgan comments in this week's FIFA 10 podcast, during our round-up of the week's Live Season movers and shakers: "America beware - the World Cup cometh. And cometh the World Cup, cometh the Rooney. Or something like that." Wayne Rooney is on fire: Six goals in his last three games says it all really.
Fwd: Arjen Robben - Bayern Munich - 92 (92)
Bayern's impressive form has seen them win their last seven games. Arjen Robben played a central role in the win over Mainz on Saturday, his trickery carving open numerous chances. But it wasn't until his 58th minute cross was met by the head of advancing defender Daniel van Buyten that the rout began. Robben secured the win with a free kick five minutes from time. If he keeps up this form, he'll worry a lot of teams at the World Cup for The Netherlands.
Teams To Try
Everton
After an indifferent start to this season's campaign, Everton have constantly improved. They're undefeated in nine and have won their last three, including a rousing win over rich-boys Manchester City and narrowly missing out on a memorable win over Arsenal. That's reflected in their rising form according to Live Season. Play as them online and you'll find them a handy package against any team.
Lille
Lille sit third in Ligue 1, narrowly edging the pack chasing for automatic European qualification. They've only lost once in their last nine outings and won a hard-fought game last weekend against fellow northerners Lens, which is reflected in a form hike in Live Season. They're a good bet online, and will rack up a fair few points if you can take them to victory against the usual suspects.
