Big-Match Preview: Arsenal Vs Chelsea

23 Nov 2009

We play the biggest game of the week with FIFA 10. Join the big game warm up!

They don't come much bigger than Arsenal-Chelsea, by far the biggest and most important game being played this week in the English Premier League.

The blue half of Merseyside might disagree of course, as Everton take on local rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park. And central Midlanders might be eyeing the Wolves-Birmingham game as a high-stakes six-pointer of distinct local importance.

But it's London where the real heat will be this weekend, all the more so because we - your Football World crew - will be literally standing outside the stadium all day encouraging people to play FIFA 10!

The Emirates Stadium will be hosting one of the first live FIFA Interactive World Cup qualifying events this weekend. Be sure to look us up (we'll be near a big EA pick-up truck outside with a load of PS3s) if you fancy entering the tournament for a chance to win a place at the UK final next year, where you'll be gunning for a trip to Barcelona to compete for a $20,000 top prize.

All of which makes the Arsenal-Chelsea game the perfect choice to mark our inaugural Big-Match Preview.

We Played It

It'll be a hard-fought, thrilling, end-to-end game. We predict a classic!

Chelsea will dominate the early sparring, going close several times after catching an over-enthusiastic Arsenal on the break, particularly down the wings. Chelsea will be 2-0 up by half time. Didier Drogba will show his predatory instincts by sliding in on a low cross just ahead of a despairing defender at the far post on 27 minutes, while Nicolas Anelka will provide the visitors with a healthy half-time cushion after a defensive mix-up ricochets the ball kindly to the Frenchman for a simple tap in.

But Arsenal, more cautious in their build-up after the break, hit back strongly in the second half. On the stroke of 50 minutes, Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas will control the ball brilliantly outside the box, sidestepping one stretching defender, before firing into the top corner from 20 yards. After 75 minutes Theo Walcott will find himself in acres of space on Chelsea's left and will deftly pass a shot across Petr Cech into the far corner after cutting inside unchallenged.

FINAL SCORE: 2-2
